BOMA Bay Area 2011 EARTH Awards
Commercial Buildings Recognized for Resource Conservation
 
BOMA member buildings in the Bay Area whose tenants composted their organics, slashed energy use and promoted alternative transportation methods won the top honors this year for sustainability.
 
Bay Area EARTH Awards were presented on April 21, 2011 to commercial buildings with top-rated sustainability programs at an event hosted by BOMA San Francisco and BOMA Oakland/East Bay. This was the fifth annual awards event and the first year that BOMA Oakland/East Bay participated.

Please help BOMA California oppose a bill that poses a major threat to your business. AB 350 (Jose Solorio; D-Santa Ana) in the California Legislature would expand existing law requiring janitorial contractors to retain employees who were employed at the site by the previous contractor for at least 60 days to a number of services utilized by building owners, including security, building maintenance, landscaping, and window cleaning, and extend the time period of retention to 90 days.

San Francisco Commercial Water Conservation Ordinance - Requirements for Commercial Buildings

Working with BOMA San Francisco, the City of San Francisco enacted a Commercial Water Conservation Ordinance in 2009 that requires all commercial property owners to provide certain water conservation measures for their buildings by January 1, 2017. The intent of this law is protect natural resources, address increasing demand for water, and cut greenhouse gas emissions through reduced water use. The required improvements also will reduce water and sewer costs for commercial properties.

DOE Announces Guide for 50% More Energy Efficient Office Buildings

The U.S. Department of Energy announced the release of the first in a new series of Advanced Energy Design Guides (AEDGs) to aid architects and engineers in the design of highly energy efficient office buildings. The 50 % AEDG series will provide a practical approach to commercial buildings designed to achieve 50 % energy savings compared to the commercial building energy code used in many areas of the country.
