The legislative landscape remains hostile to our industry. More and more proposals affecting building owners and asset managers — new taxes, fees and land-use restrictions — are going to the ballot. BOMA is prepared. BOMA San Francisco PAC is the largest and most effective PAC organized to protect the interests of the commercial real estate industry. BOMA staff understands how to comply with complex rules governing PACs and political campaigns to keep members out of harm’s way. Most importantly, we raise the money to wage effective campaigns and win.
What is a PAC?
A Political Action Committee (PAC) is a separate segregated bank account, exempt from income tax for the purpose of supporting or opposing issues or candidates for elective public office. BOMA SF PAC is actually two individual political action committee funds: a Ballot Issues PAC and Independent Expenditures PAC. Our Ballot Issues PAC is used to support or defeat ballot measures that impact the industry such as potential taxes, bonds, or policies relating to government administration at the local and state level. Our Independent Expenditure’s PAC has many flexible uses. First and foremost, this PAC allows us to support and oppose candidates at the local and state level. This fund also allows us to conduct polling, support community political organizations, or partner with other community stakeholders on policy research.
How is BOMA SF PAC Funded?
The majority of the funding for the BOMA SF PAC comes from members who elect to make the recommended voluntary contributions each year during the renewal of their annual BOMA dues. This annual contribution from members is the most effective investment against future costs to the industry in new taxes and unworkable regulatory mandates.
