Supporting Public Transportation

Reliable public transportation is crucial for the success of commercial real estate in San Francisco. BART, Muni, Caltrain, and AC Transit, which together account for more than 80% of all transit ridership in the region, face combined deficits of more than $800 million annually. Service cuts would significantly hinder downtown’s recovery from pandemic-era losses. BOMA SF is:

  • Advocating for stable funding for BART, Muni, Caltrain, and AC Transit.
  • Ensuring funding measures do not unfairly burden the commercial real estate industry.
  • Working with city and state officials to ensure transit efficiency and accountability.

Building Performance Standards (BPS)

San Francisco is developing a Building Performance Standard (BPS). BOMA SF’s ESR Committee works with the Department of the Environment to ensure it is achievable and reasonable for commercial buildings. BOMA SF is:

  • Pushing for an earlier baseline year (2019) to avoid COVID occupancy distortions.
  • Advocating for broad benchmarking coverage with realistic interim milestones.
  • Minimizing fees and aligning compliance with capital planning cycles.
  • Coordinating with the California Energy Commission to ensure statewide BPS compatibility.
